Greetings and Salutations!

Greeting and salutations!

Welcome aboard our blog about the adventures...and misadventures of Julie and Brad on the sailing vessel Estrella del Sur. We hope to keep you posted, when time, interest and internet connections coincide, on the trials and tribulations of moving from a stable, comfortable 3200 square foot home to life afloat on a roughly 650 square foot, often unstable catamaran.

We have our SPOT device up and running. If you would like to see our whereabouts click on the link below. Tracking only lasts for seven days and as long as we remember to turn it on...lol.

Our Goal

If ya gotta ask.....  We both love travel and experiencing new places, people and cultures in a way that you just can't do out of a gated resort over a couple of weeks.  We like to think that we are both adventurous - and we love the sea.  We could go on and describe the joys of couple's solitude on a small boat.  Of dolphins frolicking in your bow wake.  Of night passages where there is no land in sight and you are sailing in a star-lit dome with a circular horizon.  Of experiencing phosphorescent wakes and the 'green flash'.  And of the sense of accomplishment that comes with making a significant passage, through sometimes frightening conditions, with no one to rely upon but ourselves.

But we can spare you our efforts at waxing poetic because Mark Twain expressed it so eloquently 150 years ago in this oft-quoted mantra for cruisers and fellow travellers:

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you did not do than by the things you did do.  So, throw off the bowlines.  Sail away from the safe harbor.  Catch the trade winds in your sails.  Explore.  Dream.  Discover.
